Santa Ana Island (also known as Owa Raha or Owaraha) is an island located in the Solomon Islands, Makira-Ulawa Province. The island covers a total area of approx 15,7 km2 (6,1 ml2) and has a population of around 1550 people (2009 census).
- The relatively small coral island of Santa Ana is 5,6 km long and 4,5 km wide. It lies at the eastern end of San Cristobal (Makira), separated from it by 7,5 km wide strait, just north of smaller Santa Catalina (Owariki). The sound between Owariki and Owaraha is only 2,5 km wide. The island features two main villages Ghupuna (Gupuna) and Nafinotoga. Owaraha's people speak Owa language and share same culture with the inhabitants in Owariki and the eastern end of Makira. The Aiga Tatari and Pagewa clans of Owaraha and nearby islands claim descent from refugees out of Teonimanu that was washed away.
- First recorded Europeans' sighting was by the expedition of the Spanish navigator Alvaro de Mendana (1542-1595) on July 4, 1568. More precisely the landing in Owahara was because of a local cruise by a small boat, brigantine Santiago, having Hernan Gallego as pilot and commanded by Francisco Munoz Rico. They charted it as Santa Ana.
- Owaraha was visited by Hugo Bernatzik (1897-1953), Austrian anthropologist and photographer, in 1932. He documented daily life among island people and a few years later published an ethnography. Bernatzik also took some of the earliest and best photographs of the islanders, which reflect a culture that was dying in contact with contemporary world.
