  Port Map

Yantai (fka Chefoo) is a port city in Shandong province (northeastern China), with population around 2,2 million (metro around 7 million). The port is on Bohai Gulf (Yellow Sea) and is province's biggest fishing port. Yantai City borders Weihai (east) and Qingdao (southwest).

After the creation of Republic China (1949), Yantai officially received its city status and in 1956 the city merged with the neigbouring Wendeng and Laiyang.. The city is of great strategic importance to China's defense. Yantai and Dalian (located across Bohai Gulf) are major coastal guard ports serving Beijing. The city received its prefecture-level status in November 1983.

Currently, Yantai is Shandong's second largest industrial city (after Qingdao), but region's main industry is agriculture, particularly apples, grapes, green gram, potatoes. Most of city's power is supplied by a large power plant using coal (via coal gasification technology). The power plant is close to Port Yantai. Downtown is located approx 6 km (4 ml) away from the seaport, approx 6 km from Yantai Railway Station and at around 30-min drive distance from Yantai Penglai International Airport. The airport serves regularly scheduled domestic flights (to major Chinese airports, also to Hong Kong) as well as flights to Korea (Seoul) and Japan (Osaka).
