Review of Avraamiy Zavenyagin icebreaker
MS Avraamiy Zavenyagin ("ледокол Авраамий Завенягин") is an icebreaking vessel owned and operated by the Russian mining and metallurgical company "Norilsk Nickel".
One of the Russian river icebreaker ships, Avraamiy Zavenyagin is named after Lieutenant-General Avraami Pavlovich Zavenyagin (1901-1956). He was a leading figure in the USSR's nuclear projects (of the Soviet Union) during the 1940s and 1950s.
Until 2000, the vessel was named "Kapitan Krylov" ("Капитан Крылов"). In August 2015, the icebreaker Zavenyagin returned to the port of Dudinka (Taymyrsky Dolgano-Nenetsky District, Krasnoyarsk Krai, Russia) thoroughly refurbished and renovated, following a 2-year drydock in Arkhangelsk.
Avraamiy Zavenyagin itinerary program offers sailings in Russia’s Arctic Ocean waters with departures from homeport Arkhangelsk (European Russia).
