Review of Kapitan Plakhin icebreaker
MS Kapitan Plakhin ("ледокол "Капитан Плахин") is an icebreaking vessel is owned and operated by Rosmorport. “Rosmorport” is a Russian FSUE (“Federal State Unitary Enterprise”) created in 2012 by the order of the Russian Federation’s Ministry of Transport.
One of the Russian river icebreaker ships, Kapitan Plakhin is named after the famous Captain Panteleimon A. Plakhin who has worked more than 40 years on ships of the Russian river fleet. He was recognized as the best captain of the Ministry of the River Fleet.
The icebreaker Plakhin is able to break ice up to 1 m thick. In May 2015, Rosmorport published an open request for proposals about choosing an organization to deliver spare parts needed for the vessel's main and auxiliary diesel engines. The starting price of the order was 1,75 million rubles, including all the costs of the contractor related to the execution of works.

This vessel belongs to a series of all 6 "Kapitan Chechkin"-class (project 1105) Russian river icebreakers. Its sisters (with the same design) are the Kapitan-named ships Chadaev, Chechkin, Bukaev, Krutov, Zarubin.
Project 1105 icebreakers are of the type "river-sea", capable to operate in ice up to 1 meter thick. They are all equipped with a towing hook and intended for use at seaports in the south, west and north of Russia. These icebreakers operate on Volga River, Neva River, Azov Sea and Baltic Sea (Gulf of Finland).
