Review of Viking Odin

The Viking Odin boat cruises on Danube, Moselle, Rhine and Main rivers in Austria, Germany, Hungary, Slovakia, France, Czech Republic, Luxembourg. The ship is departing from Passau, Budapest, Prague, Paris and Nurnberg. This Viking longship is named after Odin/Odinn - in Norse mythology the god of wisdom, knowledge and magic, the father of all gods. He and his brothers Vili and Ve killed the world's primeval ruler - the Ymir monster (creator of giants). Then the three gods created from wood the first human couple - Askr (man) and Embla (wonam). God Odin gave them life and souls.

The state-of-the-art river ship Viking Odin longship was designed as a “green ship” by the legendary architects Yran & Storbraaten, with solar panels, hybrid energy-efficient engines and organic herb garden. The added benefit of hybrid engines helps for smoother cruising experience.

The Sun Deck shaded sitting area provides ideal environment to enjoy the changing scenery while you cruise. Onboard amenities also include a library, an onboard boutique and free wireless internet service.

Viking Cruises longships feature energy-efficient hybrid engine technology, solar panels and an interior design by "Yran & Storbraaten" (Norway). The additional cabin space is created by 1 m (3,3 ft) off-center shifting of the deck's corridor.
  • The riverboat's godmother is Mrs Joanna Lumley - prominent UK actress (most famous with her role of Patsy Stone in the BBC comedy series "Absolutely Fabulous" /"Ab Fab"), also a voiceover artist and author of several books. The ship’s christening ceremony was held in Amsterdam, Holland. On March 21, 2012, Odin was inaugurated together with the Viking longships Idun (both in Amsterdam), and via live video link-up with Rostock - also with Freya and Njord.
