On July 20, 2020, CMV's parent company SQTL (South Quay Travel & Leisure Ltd) was placed into administration / filed for bankruptcy. The UK-based company traded as "Cruise and Maritime Voyages" (trademarked brand, aka CMV). As Joint Administrators (evaluating SQTL's financial position) were appointed Paul Williams, Phil Dakin and Edward Bines of Duff & Phelps Ltd.

SQTL-CMV's cruisetour packages were protected by ABTA (number V9945). SQTL-CMV's fly-cruise packages are protected by ATOL (number 4619). All CMV cruise bookings (fleetwide/all ships) were effectively cancelled.

In June, SQTL-CMV entered into emergency talks with potential investors and lenders. Unfortunately, the company's efforts to secure funding and stay afloat during the Coronavirus crisis failed. The future of the CMV ships (some SQTL-owned, some chartered) remains unknown.

28 August 2018Coast Guard Medevacs

On August 28, 2018, a male cruise passenger (suffering heart problems) was medevaced from the ship navigating Outer Hebrides (off west coast mainland Scotland). The ship contacted HM Coastguard at ~11 pm, requesting urgent medical assistance. Stornoway Coastguard rescue helicopter was dispatched to the scene. The man was airlifted and transported to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital (Glasgow, Scotland).

The incident occurred on the 2nd day of 9-day British Isles Discovery Cruise (itinerary Aug 26 - Sept 4) roundtrip from homeport Dublin to Bristol, Portree (Isle of Skye), Kirkwall, Honfleur (France), Guernsey (Channel Islands) and Tresco Island.

03 August 2016Ship Collision / Allision

On August 3, 2016, at ~7 pm, the ship hit a passenger ferry boat near the berthing jetty at Tilbury Docks (homeport London-Tilbury).

Following the accident, the ferry service Tilbury-Gravesend was suspended for damage assessment and investigation.

According to CMV, the collision ("very minor contact") was due to a strong gust of wind.

16 June 2009Crew / Passenger Deaths

(MS Carnival Holiday / overboard) On June 16, 2009, a 50-year-old female passenger was reported missing and presumably overboard. The accident occurred while the ship was navigating in the Gulf of Mexico, en-route from homeport Mobile, (Alabama) to Cozumel (Mexico).

Via the PA system, all passengers were required to return to their staterooms for a head count. The procedure was initiated after a crew member reported hearing a loud splash near the ship. The ship informed the USCG and started a search operation, circling in the area. The woman's body was never found.

05 February 2009Propulsion / Power Loss

(MS Carnival Holiday) On February 5, 2009, due to technical problems resulted in reduced cruising speed, the scheduled visit to call port Progreso (Mexico) was canceled.

Reportedly, Carnival Cruise Line knew about the problems before passenger embarkation in homeport Mobile (Alabama). All boarding passengers received a letter informing them about a problem affecting the ship's speed, the cancellation of Progreso and visiting only Cozumel (Mexico).

January 2008Cruise Illness / Virus Outbreaks

(MS Carnival Holiday) In January 2008, CDC reported on itinerary Jan 24 to 28, a Norovirus outbreak (gastrointestinal illness) infected 121 passengers (out of 1548, or 7,8%) and 22 crew (out of 686, or 3,2%). All sick suffered from Norovirus symptoms (vomiting, diarrhea) and were quarantined to their cabins.

The ship was on 5-day Cozumel Mexico cruise roundtrip from homeport Mobile Alabama.

01 April 2006Structural and Technical Issues

(MS Carnival Holiday) On April 1, 2006, after the liner ship returned to homeport Mobile Alabama, passengers reported numerous issues with the ship's standards of service. Among the complaints were repairs and various maintenance works done during the voyage, out of service hot tubs, not properly working toilets, inconsistent hot water in cabins.

30 December 2004Propulsion / Power Loss

(MS Carnival Holiday) On December 30, 2004, due to mechanical / engine problems affecting the ship's cruising speed, the 4-day Cozumel Mexico itinerary was changed to Cruise to Nowhere (roundtrip without any call ports). All passengers were given the option to cancel with full refund.

13 November 2004Propulsion / Power Loss

(MS Carnival Holiday) On November 13, 2004, while maneuvering on Mobile River, due to an engine (starboard diesel) and propulsion (bow thruster) problems, the ship suffered power loss.

Even though the provided tugboat assistance, the liner's bow collided with pilings along Mobile River. Eventually, the power was restored and the ship was berthed at Alabama Cruise Terminal.

Note: Actually, this type of marine accidents is called “allision” (striking a fixed object) as opposed to “collision” (striking another vessel).

22 August 2004Boat Rescue

(MS Carnival Holiday) On August 22, 2004, while navigating off Cancun Mexico's coast, the cruise ship rescued 4 adults and a 10-year-old boy from a capsized fishing boat. The ship started a search operation after a crew reported hearing yelling from the sea.

October 2003Cruise Illness / Virus Outbreaks

(MS Carnival Holiday) In October 2003, CDC reported two Norovirus outbreaks (gastrointestinal illness) on the ship. All sick suffered from Norovirus symptoms (stomach cramps, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea) and were quarantined to their cabins.

• On itinerary Oct 11-16, the outbreak affected 97 passengers (out of 1653, or 5,8%) and 53 crew (out of 677, or 7,8%).
• On itinerary Oct 16-20, the outbreak affected 12 passengers (out of 1514, or 0,8%) and 25 crew (out of 684, or 3,7%). 

06 May 2003Crew / Passenger Crimes

(MS Carnival Holiday) On May 6, 2003, the ship's departure from homeport was delayed nearly 24 hours due to a security breach. A male passenger (off-duty policeman) reported he carries a gun in his luggage. Somehow, the weapon passed the security check upon boarding. In another passenger bag also were found ammunition.

The USCG ordered the vessel to remain berthed and all its crew and passenger baggage to be rechecked.

29 November 2002Ship Grounding

(MS Carnival Holiday) On November 29, 2002, the cruise ship ran aground in the port of call Playa del Carmen (Yucatan Mexico). The next scheduled 4-day Mexico cruise (departure November 30) was first revised to 2-day Cruise to Nowhere, then officially canceled as the vessel remained grounded. The next scheduled departure (December 2) was not affected.
