05 November 2022Crew / Passenger Crimes

(Mein Schiff Herz) On November 5, 2022, a 27-year-old male passenger was reported missing after disembarking the ship in Gibraltar (UK).

The Brazilian man (Mateus Rodrigues Muniz Da Silva) was last seen on Nov 5th and went missing after 11 am. The cruise ship left Port Gibraltar at ~3 pm.

The incident occurred during a 6-day voyage from Malaga to Santa Cruz de Tenerife (itinerary Nov 4-10), visiting Gibraltar (port stay 7 am / 3 pm), Agadir Morocco and Arrecife-Lanzarote (Canary Islands).

07 June 2022Cruise Illness / Virus Outbreaks

(Mein Schiff Herz/Coronavirus) On June 7, 2022, the liner was denied entry and disembarkation in Port Tanger-Ville (Tangier City, Morocco) after the Captain reported that a total of 26x passengers (out of 1785) tested COVID-positive.

The accident occurred during the 7-day "Mittelmeer Mit Andalusien I" itinerary (June 3-10, roundtrip from Malaga Spain) with call ports Lisbon (June 5), Tangier (June 7/planned port stay 7 am - 8 pm), Cadiz-Sevilla (June 8) and Gibraltar UK (June 9).

04 March 2019Coast Guard Medevacs

(Mein Schiff Herz) On March 4, 2019, a seriously ill male passenger was medevaced while the liner was en-route from Palma de Mallorca to Cadiz, approx 37 km (23 mi) southeast of Cabo de Palos (Cartagena, Murcia). The operation was conducted by the deployed from Cartagena rescue ship Salvamar Mimosa. The TUI ship Herz changed its course at ~10 am and headed for Cartagena Bay, where met the rescue cruiser and at ~11 am offloaded the patient together with 3 crew (doctor, nurse, staff).

In Port Cartagena, they were met by an ambulance, then the rescue ship brought the three crew back to the cruise liner. At ~12 -noon, Mein Schiff Herz continued towards Cadiz.

The incident occurred during 11-day "Mittelmeer Mit Kanaren" cruise roundtrip from homeport Palma de Mallorca (Majorca Island) to Cadiz, Canary Islands (Fuerteventura, Tenerife, Lanzarote), Gibraltar, and Barcelona.

16 September 2013Ship Collision / Allision

(Mein Schiff 2) On September 16, 2013, in Port Bari Italy, the cruiseferry Superfast 2 collided with TUI's Schiff 2. The collision was due to strong winds (up to 45 mph / 75 kph), causing the ferry to break moorings, drift and hit the cruise ship.

Ferry's bulbous bow penetrated the liner's hull starboard (fortunately, above the waterline). No injuries were reported.

March 2010Cruise Illness / Virus Outbreaks

(Celebrity Mercury) In March 2010, the CDC reported two epidemic Norovirus outbreaks (gastrointestinal illness).

On itinerary February 26 to March 8, the outbreak infected 182 passengers (out of 1749, or 10,4%) and 14 crew (out of 850, or 1,7%). On the following itinerary (March 8 to 19), the outbreak infected 406 passengers (out of 1829, or 22,1%) and 13 crew (out of 857, or 1,5%).

All sick suffered from Norovirus symptoms (predominantly vomiting and diarrhoea) and were quarantined to their cabins. The ship was operating on Caribbean cruises roundtrip from homeport Charleston SC.

12 February 2010Crew / Passenger Injuries and Overboards

(Celebrity Mercury) On February 12, 2010, six male crew were hospitalized ashore and treated from carbon monoxide poisoning. The incident occurred while the ship was docked in Baltimore MD. The men were performing welding inside the ship's engine room. After the works were completed, they reported respiratory and other medical issues to the onboard infirmary.

(Celebrity Mercury) In February 2010, CDC reported on itinerary Feb 15 to 26, an epidemic Norovirus outbreak (gastrointestinal illness) infected 411 passengers (out of 1833, or 22,4%) and 32 crew (out of 843, or 3,8%). All sick suffered from Norovirus symptoms (vomiting, diarrhoea) and were quarantined to their cabins.

The ship was on a 12-day cruise ending in homeport Charleston SC.

March 2009Cruise Illness / Virus Outbreaks

(Celebrity Mercury) In March 2009, CDC reported on itinerary Feb 28 to Mar 15, a Norovirus outbreak (gastrointestinal illness) infected 113 passengers (out of 1862, or 6,1%) and 6 crew (out of 834, or 0,7%). All sick suffered from Norovirus symptoms (stomach cramps, vomiting, diarrhoea) and were quarantined to their cabins.

January 2009Cruise Illness / Virus Outbreaks

(Celebrity Mercury) In January 2009, CDC reported on itinerary Jan 3 to 17, a Norovirus outbreak (gastrointestinal illness) infected 150 passengers (out of 1842, or 8,1%) and 7 crew (out of 859, or 0,8%). All sick suffered from Norovirus symptoms (stomach cramps, vomiting, diarrhoea) and were quarantined to their cabins.

The ship was on 15-day Panama Canal cruise from San Diego CA to Fort Lauderdale (Port Everglades) Florida.

June 2006Cruise Illness / Virus Outbreaks

(Celebrity Mercury) In June 2006, CDC reported on itinerary June 2 to 9, a Norovirus outbreak (gastrointestinal illness) infected 121 passengers (out of 2025, or 6%) and 4 crew (out of 848, or 0,5%). All sick suffered from Norovirus symptoms (stomach cramps, vomiting, diarrhoea) and were quarantined to their cabins.

The ship was on 7-day Alaskan cruise roundtrip from homeport Seattle WA.

19 May 2006Crew / Passenger Crimes

(Celebrity Mercury) On May 19, 2006, during a routine safety inspection, the vessel's Captain failed the breath alcohol test. He was removed from the ship by the inspecting USCG officers and charged with "operating a ship while under the influence of alcohol". The departure from homeport Seattle WA was delayed as a new Captain was assigned.

(law news) On July 31, 2006, the Captain pled guilty to the charge. He was fined USD 15,000, placed on 1-year probation (as Captain) and banned for 1 year from entering USA waters as a marine vessel employee.

March 2006Cruise Illness / Virus Outbreaks

(Celebrity Mercury) In March 2006, CDC reported two Norovirus outbreaks (gastrointestinal illness) on the following voyages.

On itinerary March 6 to 17, an outbreak infected 191 passengers (out of 1902, or 10%) and 14 crew (out of 840, or 1,7%). On the following itinerary (March 17 to 27), an outbreak infected 107 passengers (out of 1986, or 5,4%) and 24 crew (out of 844, or 2,8%).

All sick suffered from Norovirus symptoms (predominantly vomiting and diarrhoea) and were quarantined to their cabins. The ship was operating on Mexican Riviera cruises roundtrip from homeport San Diego CA.

September 2005Sea Pollution

(Celebrity Mercury) In November 2006, Celebrity Cruises was fined USD 100,000 for water pollution. The ship dumped around 500,000 gallons (~1,89 million litres) of wastewater into Puget Sound (Salish Sea, Washington USA). A total of 10 dumpings were noted in the vessel's logbook in 2005 (September and October).

29 August 2004Crew / Passenger Deaths

(Celebrity Mercury, overboard) On August 29, 2005, a 40-year-old female passenger was reported missing and presumably fell overboard. The woman (Miriam Carver) disappeared during a 7-day Alaskan cruise (itinerary August 27 - September 3). The body was never found.
