MS American West (1995-built as "Queen of the West", extensive drydock refurbishments in 2011 and 2021-2022/renamed) is an authentic late 1800s design US river paddle-wheeler steamboat owned by the American Cruise Lines company. The riverboat has a design similar to that of the fleetmates American Heritage/fka Queen of the Mississippi (2015), American Splendor/fka America (2016), American Pride (2012, sistership) and American Eagle (2015), and also to the American Queen Voyages/Steamboat Company's American Empress and American Queen steamboat.

The vessel was built for the "American West Steamboat Co", previously owned by "Majestic America Line" (now defunct), purchased by American Cruise Lines in 2010. This boat represents a traditional for this region of the United States paddle-wheeler design. These boats were also known as "paddle steamers" as they were powered by steam engines. The steam plant’s power drives the paddle wheel. On the Queen of the West ship the paddle wheel is located at the stern, but there were boats with two wheels mounted at the sides instead. The wheel(s) propels the ship through the water. Queen of the West is powered by two diesel engines, and the propulsion has a revolutionary hydraulic system using biodegradable oil.

Queen of the West/American West river cruise ship deck plan shows a total of 74 staterooms for 120 passengers served by 47 crew/staff. The boat has 4 passenger decks (all accessible via 1 elevator), 4 lounges and bars, 1 restaurant.

The 2011’s multi-million refurbishment added private balconies and a new Library Lounge. During the renovation, several staterooms were converted into single cabins. Some of the boat’s best features are the specially designed, custom-made furniture in cabins and public spaces, and the expanded passengers' accommodations, many of which with private balconies. Service on board is attentive (by young staff), highly personalized, the atmosphere is intimate and cozy.
