Charlotteville (Tobago)

Charlotteville is a port village located on Tobago's northeastern tip on Man-o-war Bay.

• The first European settlers to the region arrived in 1633, with much more arriving in 1639. The village's history is closely connected with sugar farming. The deep-water harbour of Charlotteville was also of great importance for the development of the settlement. In more recent days fishing has been important for the economy of Charlotteville.
• The village of Charlotteville boasts with one of the few remaining unique tamboo bamboo bands. Rhythms in it are produced through banging bamboo on the ground. It originated in slavery times as slaves were not allowed to play any musical instruments. Nowadays a saxophone player is also in the band.
• Charlotteville has several small restaurants. The village has no large hotels, just a few guesthouses and apartments to rent. Pirate's Bay and the beach in the village is 20 minutes' walk along a track.
• Pirate's Bay (also popular as "Little Italy") is hidden at the other side of Charlotteville. It is famous for the popularity in playing football.
