Duisburg is a Rhine River cruise port and city in Germany's North Rhine-Westphalia state (Urban district) with population around ,0m million (metro over 11,3 million). The city is famous for having the world's biggest inland harbor and is also is conveniently close to Dusseldorf Airport. Duisburg has numerous facilities that serve steel production and commerce.

Duisburg is located at the confluence of the rivers Rhine and Ruhr, spreading along both sides of the rivers. Like many other cities, contemporary Duisburg is a result of many incorporations of surrounding smaller cities and towns. It is the 15th-largest city in Germany and the 5th-largest city in North Rhine-Westphalia. The city is famous for its steel industry. The last coal mine closed down in 2009, but Duisburg had never been a center of coal-mining to the same extent as other settlements in Ruhr region. All blast furnaces in Ruhr are now found in Duisburg. It also boasts a large brewery, König Brauerei, situated in Duisburg-Beeck, which makes König Pilsener brand. Among the ten largest German universities ranks the University of Duisburg-Essen (39,000 students).

"Duisport" (locode DEDUI) is currently the world's largest inland port. It is officially regarded as "seaport" because seagoing river ships go to ports in the Middle East, Africa, and Europe. Numerous docks are predominantly located at the mouth of River Ruhr where it joins Rhine river.

Each year over 40 million tonnes of different goods are handled with over 20,000 ships visiting the port. Public harbor facilities comprise an area of 7,4 km2 (2,9 mi2). 21 docks cover an area of 1,8 km2 (0,7 mi2) and 40 km (25 mi) wharf length. The area of Logport Logistic Center Duisburg is 2,65 km2 (1 mi2). With annual volumes ~2,5 million TEU-containers, it is also the biggest inland containership port according to 2011 figures. A number of companies have their own private docks and 114 mill tonnes of goods per year are handled in total in Duisburg.

The city of Duisburg hosts a range of cultural events. A highlight is "Duisburger Akzente", an annual festival focused on modern political, cultural and social topics.
