Magdalena Island (Isla Magdalena) is in Strait of Magellan (Chile), located approx 32 km (20 ml) northeast of Punta Arenas. Isla Magdalena is the breeding location for seabirds, including Magellanic penguins. The penguin colony is constantly monitored since 1998, with estimated over 63,000 pairs. Currently, the island is uninhabited.
Cruise ship passengers can walk through the island via walking trail (marked path) along the coastline. It leads to the lighthouse with an exhibition of photos and information on the marine life. The nearby Marta Island shelters cormorants, skuas, sea lions.
