Mannum is a Murray River cruise port and historic town in South Australia. The small town (population around 2,000) is located approx 84 km (52 ml) east of South Australia state's capital city Adelaide.
The town's importantance as major Murray River port declined in the late 19th century when SA railway system reached Morgan and Murray Bridge. Today, Mannum is best known for being the homeport of the largest cruise ship on Murray River - PS Murray Princess (sternwheel paddle riverboat). From here, the ship operates on regularly scheduled 7-day cruises. Another historic paddlewheel steam ship homeported here is PS Marion. The latter was a drydocked ship museum for many years. Mannum is also famous for its numerous houseboats that can be privately chartered (hired).
Since 1954, the Mannum-Adelaide pipeline provides Adelaide City with water supply. Today, the town is a popular tourist travel destination. In the summer, its population increases up to 10,000 when visited by semi-residents and tourists. Mannum features 3 hotels, 1 supermarket, specialty shops, Australian Football team (Roos), Rowing Club, Netball Club, Community Complex (indoor sporting events). Among its most popular sports activities are cricket and tennis tournaments (in the summer) and water sports (water skiing and wakeboarding in the winter).
The Mannum cruise port map is interactive. It shows the port's exact location, along with the real-time cruise ship traffic (if any) in its vicinity - today, and right now. By zooming-out you can see other cruise ship ports located near Mannum, South Australia.
