Neum (Bosnia-Herzegovina)

Neum is an Adriatic Sea port and town in Bosnia-Herzegovina and the country's only seaport. Bosnia's coastline has a total length of approx 20 km (12 mi). The town has a population of around 3,000 and is located approx 60 km (37 mi) from Croatia's most visited city and largest cruise port - Dubrovnik.

Future plans include the development of Neum as cargo port - with modern facilities and direct railway and road links to Croatia. Today, Bosnia-Herzegovina's primary cargo port is Ploce (Croatia) which is rail-linked to Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH).

The town features a typical Mediterranean climate, scenery highlighted by pebble-sand beaches, pristine wilderness, steep hills (with centuries-old olive trees), several large resort hotels (including Sunce, Villa Nova, Grand Hotel, Nova, Orka, Porat, Jadran), numerous villas and apartments for tourist rentals. Neum's hotels-motels-villas-apartments offer ~5000 beds. Tourism is the town's main source of income. The tourism and shopping industries benefit from the lower prices in comparison to Croatia's travel and leisure vacation offers.

As cruise port, Neum is a tender port - meaning the ship anchors at sea and transport its passengers ashore via its tender boats.
