Parintins is an Amazon River cruise port and city in Brazil's Amazonas state with population 1round 110,000. Parintins is on Tupinambarana island (in the river). It is best known among tourists for the "Boi Bumba" folklore festival held here annually (in June). The city is served by Julio Belem Airport.
Europeans discovered Parintins in 1749, when the Portuguese exploiter Jose Goncalves da Fonseca (1838-1911) noticed the island in the river. Main local industries were agriculture and fishing arapaima.
Cruise ship tourists are entertained with a special recreation of the Boi Bumba festival, featuring traditional music and spectacular costumes.
