The settlement (as Ponieries) was established in the mid-10th-century as a gift of Bishop Chrodegang of Metz to the Abbey of Gorze. In 1264, the Pomerania property was purchased by Himmerod Abbey (its biggest landholder). In the following years, the town grew by adding/purchasing a vineyard and several adjacent estates. In 1815, Pommern-Mosel was assigned to Prussia (1525-1947) and since 1946 (after WW2 / 1939-45) is part of Rhineland-Palatinate.

Main tourist attractions in Pommern-Mosel include timber-frame houses (17th-18th-centuries), winemakers' houses and villas (19th-century, early-20th-century), annual festivals - Spillesfest (whine-themed), Uferrock (July), Kirmes (August), Winzer-Hof-Fest (September). Town's current economy is traditionally based on viticulture (winemaking) and production (the Pommerner-branded wines Rosenberg, Sonnenuhr, Goldberg and Zeisel).
