Sinop is a Black Sea port and town in Turkey. It is located on the isthmus of Inceburun Peninsula and has population around 40,000.

The town serves as capital of Sinop Province. Currently, it is slated to be the site of Sinop Nuclear Power Plant - USD 46 billion construction project developed by ITOCHU Corporation (Japan), Elektrik Uretim (Turkey's largest electric power company) and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (Japanese multinational). The plant will consist of 4 nuclear reactors. Once started, construction works could be in a 10-year period.

Tourist attractions in Sinop include:

  • Pasa Tabyası (Bastion) is a semi-circular fortification (half-moon coastal bastion), located southeast of Sinop Peninsula. Pasha Bastion was built to protect the city of Sinop against attacks from the Black Sea during Russo-Turkish War. It has an artillery battery of 11 cannons, arsenal and basement. Currently, it is used as a site for refreshments premise.
  • Tarihi Su Kanalı (Water Tunnel) is an underground water supply channel located at Sülüklü Göl (Lake of Leeches). Dug in rock, it's around 230 m (750 ft) long with a clearance of 1,5 m (4,9 ft). 
  • Balatlar Kilisesi (Church) is a ruined church from Byzantine Empire period. It's partly preserved and only its chapel vault is in undamaged condition. Other parts of the church feature no roof any more. The fresco paintings on the ceiling of the chapel and on the nave walls are intact.
  • Serapeum is a ruined temple that is dedicated to the Hellenistic-Ancient Egyptian deity Serapis, located in the southwestern corner in the Sinop Archaeokogical Museum's yard.
