  Port Map

Trelleborg is a port city located in Scania (Sweden), with a population of around 30,000. It is also Sweden's southernmost town, and one of Scandinavia's most important ferry ports serving car and passenger ferries in the Baltic Sea.

Trelleborg Harbour/Hafen (locode SETRG) is strategically positioned at Scandinavian Peninsula's southernmost tip. Port's first ferry route (to Germany) was inaugurated in 1897. It was replaced in 1909 by the train-ferry line to Sassnitz (Rugen Island) as part of the Malmo-Berlin route.

The first cruise ship docked in Trelleborg on July 19, 2017. This was the Phoenix Reisen-owned liner Artania, which at 7:30 am docked at the newly built "Ferry Berth 10" carrying ~1200 German tourists. They were welcomed with a live music performance by the city’s orchestra. Shore excursions are via buses - to the towns Trelleborg and Smygehuk. Shopping tours are also often organized.

Before the completed in 2017 breakwaters and turning basin expansion, Port Trelleborg was unable to handle larger cruise vessels (with LOA length over 200 m / 656 ft). MS Artania (length 231 m) was on a 10-day roundtrip itinerary from Kiel Germany and remained in Trelleborg for 12 hours.

Trelleborg ferry port

In 1962 (during the USSR/Soviet Union times), a longer car ferry service Sweden-Germany was opened to Travemunde by the German company TT LINE. After 1989, in Port Trelleborg was built the Travemundebron Ferry Terminal serving all ferries linking Sweden with Germany (Travemunde, Warnemunde-Rostock) and Poland (Swinoujscie). There are three main ferry companies operating between Trelleborg and:

Most of the ferried transports are trucks.

At the end of October 2017, STENA LINE was the first to use Port Trelleborg's newly installed shore-to-ship power (shore-side electricity supply). While docked in Trelleborg, STENA's ferries connect to the city's power grid thus reducing emissions (COx, SOx, NOx) and soot particulates in the air.

  • STENA LINE pioneered the shore-side power supply technology in 1989, since when some of its ships are able to connect to the visited port city's electricity grid when berthed.
  • As of 2017, the company has a total of 6 ports in Sweden offering local shore power supply. All such ferry ports (with onshore power supply capabilities) allow vessels to connect to the local electricity grid when berthed for over 2 hours. In Trelleborg, STENA ships dock for over 2 hours 10 (out of 16) times per week.
  • The alternative power allows the vessel to completely shut down its onboard diesel-powered machinery. The port power supply equipment is overload-protected for a nominal 2,2 MW load.

Trelleborg cruise terminal

Ferries and cruise ships in Trelleborg dock at the dedicated "TT-Line Ferry Terminal Trelleborg" (address "Travemundebron, Hamngatan 9, S-23122 Trelleborg").

If arriving by car (from the Malmo direction), to the ferry terminal just follow road E22. If arriving from Ystad, road R9 takes you directly to Travemundebron.

If arriving by rail (via SJ / Swedish National Railways), you first arrive at Malmö Central Station, then by bus on road 146 to Trelleborg Ovre. From there, the walking distance to the ferry terminal is 10 min.
