The city is a major domestic tourism travel destination featuring over 100 beaches, the most popular of which are Enseada, Grande, Itamambuca, Lazaro, Maranduba, Pereque, Saco da Ribeira, Vermelha. Ubatuba is officially considered state's "surf capital" due to more than 10 internationally renowned surf contests (including 2 world qualifying and 2 Super Surf Pro series) held off its beaches every year. Other surfing competitions are supported by well-established brands like Billabong International (Australia), Quiksilver (American-Australian), Dunkelvolk (Peru).
