Wiesbaden is a Rhine River cruise port and city in Germany's Hesse state (Urban district) with population around 280,000 (metro around 560,000). The metro area Wiesbaden-Frankfurt-Darmstadt-Mainz has combined population around 5,8 million.

The city is located on Rhine's northern bank (after the confluence of Main River) and across the river from Mainz (Rhineland-Palatinate state's capital). Frankfurt is approx 38 km (24 mi) to the east.

Wiesbaden is one of Europe's oldest spa resort destinations, famous for its hot springs used since Roman times. Spring bathing was developed as important business in the Middle Ages, when were operated a total of 16 bath houses. By the 18th century their number grew to 23. Along with spa bathing, the city was also famous as destination for gambling. Until 1872 (when Spielbank was closed), Wiesbaden Casino rivalled Bad Homburg vor der Hohe, Baden-Baden and Monaco. The casino was reopened in 1949. Popular tourist events held annually in Wiesbaden are International May Festival, Rheingau Wine Festival, Rheingau Musik Festival.
