Review of Kapitan Bukaev icebreaker
MS Kapitan Bukaev ("ледокол Капитан Букаев") is an icebreaking vessel owned and operated by Rosmorport. “Rosmorport” is a Russian FSUE (“Federal State Unitary Enterprise”) created in 2012 by the order of the Russian Federation’s Ministry of Transport.
One of the Russian river icebreaker ships, Kapitan Bukaev is named after the famous Soviet captain Peter Semenovich Bukaev (1894-1983), awarded the title Laureate of the State Prize of the USSR and the honorary title of "Best Captain of the Ministry of the River Fleet of the USSR". Bukaev took the lead in drawing up an optimum organizational and technical plan for the use of the vessel and the crew. The plan was based on cutting-edge, innovative methods to accelerate the turnover of the vessel. It also increased the productivity and reduced transportation costs by improved methods of navigation, reduced transport operation times, improved efficiency of a steam power plant, a more rational system of remuneration.
Rosmorport’s Kapitan Bukaev itinerary program serves Russia's Volga-Caspian shipping channel (North Caspian Sea) providing year-round navigation out of home-port Astrakhan (on Volga River).
