Review of Kapitan Chechkin icebreaker
MS Kapitan Chechkin ("ледокол Капитан Чечкин") is an icebreaking vessel owned and operated by Rosmorport. “Rosmorport” is a Russian FSUE (“Federal State Unitary Enterprise”) created in 2012 by the order of the Russian Federation’s Ministry of Transport.
One of the Russian river icebreaker ships, Kapitan Chechkin was the first manufactured by Wаrtsilа Marine ship of the new at that time "Project 1105". The series of all 6 vessels were named after Captain Mikhail Alekseevich Chechkin (Михаил Алексеевич Чечкин, 1907-1973). During his career, he successfully carried out many complex and responsible campaigns in Russia's Arctic territories. He also participated in the construction of Krasnoyarsk Bridge (across Yenisei River) and also of Krasnoyarsk Dam (hydroelectric power station).
Rosmorport’s Kapitan Chechkin itinerary program offers sailings in the White Sea, as well as in Russia’s Arctic Ocean waters with departures from home-port Astrakhan (on Volga River).
