TWO SMALL SHIPS, SAME ITINERARY, TOTALLY DIFFERENT EXPERIENCES In short the weather impacted markedly on our cruise and we only sailed from Oban to Tobermory & stopped at Duart Castle (which was closed) on the return of our 3 night cruise. No effort was made to improve the guest experience with safety quoted as the dictating factor. In contrast our fellow passengers on the Glen Massan, which sailed on the same day on the same itinerary, had a much different expererience where their captain stopped at many other places, sailed after dinner from Tobermory to get the ship in a better position in the morning for passenger benefit with the resulting passenger reviews on the Majestic Cruises website reflecting the great experience they had --- in the same weather conditions! The dining onboard Glen Etive ranged from very good to very poor. On one day a superb seafood lunch was served & in contrast the next days lunch was pasta in sauce & a chocolate bar! For the monies paid it certainly was not plentiful with evening meals only 2 courses with cheese & biscuits to follow. The cabins were, as expected basic but beware you will be sleeping on the water line & if the wind blows then there is the constant noise of lapping water the side of the boat all night long. The crew were very pleasant & generally accommodating - but were clearly seeking tips. Regretably afterwards no feedback was sought by the company, negative reviews are not published on their website & any form of complaint is simply dismissed. In summary I am sure if the weather is good you could have a good experience but if like us the weather is not so kind then it would have been far cheaper and quicker to get on the local ferry for the 3 hour trip to Tobermory, rather than take the 3 day 'A Taste of Hebrides' cruise. IMHO the ship amenities are ok but I was certainly expecting better with the dining. I've been once but certainly would not recommend Majestic Cruises to anyone based on my 3 day sailing with them --- its simply too much of a gamble both with the weather & the likely assigned captain & his approach to providing the best passenger experience!
