Colin Barnett, Western Australia Premier and Tourism Minister, announced that gambling on cruise ships is to be permitted for intra-State voyages and those within 12 nautical miles of WA coastline.

Today, Barnett gave the opening address at 2016 WA Tourism Conference in Perth. He said that until now cruise ship gaming rooms were forced to close traveling between WA ports or when they were within twelve nautical miles of the coast.

58 cruise ships docked at Fremantle in 2015-2016, carrying around 152,000 passengers and crew. Lifting WA's gaming restrictions will make the State more attractive destination for cruise lines, generating over AUD 275 million for the local economy.
