Viking River Cruises Grows Fleet

Viking River Cruises revealed plans to launch 7 new ships in 2019. 

Viking will launch 6 of its Longship class of river boats on Rhine, Main and Danube in 2019: Viking Einar, Viking Sigrun, Viking Sigyn, Viking Tir, Viking Ullur and Viking Vali. It will also launch a smaller Longship-style ship, Viking Helgrim, on Douro River in Portugal.

Viking launched a couple of Longships in 2017 after launching 6 last year, 12 in 2015, 18 in 2014.

Meanwhile, the river cruise line has been growing its ocean division, which required a lot of investment. But According to Viking chairman, Torstein Hagen, the company has not forgotten its river cruise roots and intends to continue growing the business.

The 190-passenger ships are outfitted in a Scandinavian-style design and boast an Aquavit Terrace with retractable glass doors for dining al fresco or inside, depending on the weather.
