Trondheim Port Authority (TPA) has received a government allocation of Nkr 20 million (EUR 1.7 million) to implement shore power for cruise ships at the main cruise quay.

The shore power facility is designed to provide 50Hz and 60Hz, 6.6kV & 11kV and up to 12 mW with IEC/IEEE 80005-1 plugs, with an estimated total cost of NKr87 million, the remaining NKr 67 million will be covered by TPA funds.

Maria Kuhnl Undheim, marketing manager cruise TPA, explains that a comprehensive analysis will be conducted this summer to communicate the economic value of cruise tourism and its geographic spread to the community. Additionally, the port has organized visits for politicians aboard the methanol-ready Mein Schiff 7 to highlight the sustainability of cruise vessels, continuing a tradition spanning 3 years.

Trondheim is preparing to host the FIS Nordic World Ski Championship in late February/early March 2025. Transportation to and from the Granasen arena, located just 10 minutes from the city, will be facilitated by buses in the region.

The city has enhanced its accessibility for fly-cruise travelers with the introduction of direct flights from London to Munich and Amsterdam.

This year, a total of 93 cruise calls are expected at Trondheim, Hitra, Froya, and Namsos, all under the purview of TPA. These visits are anticipated to bring up to 198,000 passengers to explore the Trondelag region, renowned as the Home of Nordic Flavour.
