National Geographic-Lindblad Expeditions has entered the European river-cruise market with the August 15th departure of its first voyage.

The "Holland and Belgium: Medieval History & Scenic Waterways" itinerary includes a 7-night cruise portion and runs between Amsterdam and Brussels. Call ports include Kampen (land tour to Giethoorn), Arnhem, Rotterdam, The Hague (canal boat cruise to Delft), Kinderdijk (Windmill network stop), Antwerp, and Ghent.

The programme is based on the long-term chartered from Transcend Cruises luxury riverboat Transcend Connect.

Lindblad's expedition programme is supported by an Expedition Leader, Field Staff and, during the inaugural season, at least one National Geographic Expedition Expert. The team provides guests with guided visits, private tours, tastings, and other destination-focused activities designed around the region's history and culture.

The 2025-built, 120-passenger Transcend Connect is a new-generation ship featuring wraparound panoramic windows, contemporary accommodations and technology designed for river operations. The vessel is intended to operate on waterways in Germany, France, the Netherlands and other European destinations while maintaining the expedition-focused character of the new programme.

Lindblad's CEO, Trey Byus, said the inaugural sailing marked the beginning of the company’s expansion into European waterways. He noted that the new programme would allow the operator to apply its established expedition approach to destinations across the continent.

The European programme will continue in September with "Rhine River: Castles, Culture and Culinary Delights", also operated by Transcend Connect. The 7-night itinerary runs between Cologne and Basel,l following the Rhine Gorge, with its vineyards and historic landscapes, and visiting Mainz, Frankfurt and Heidelberg in Germany and Strasbourg and Colmar in France’s Alsace region.

Lindblad's expansion will continue in 2027 with the introduction of Transcend Evolve. The boat will operate Christmas Market cruises, effectively doubling Nat Geo-Lindblad’s European river fleet and extending its expedition programme into the winter season.
