Mein Schiff 2 (built 1997 as mv Mercury, last refurbished in 2013) is the second oldest TUI cruise ship of the line’s Century class – preceded by Mein Schiff 1 (launched as Celebrity Galaxy, now Marella Explorer) and Celebrity Century (now SkySea-Golden-Era). The vessel was built for the RCCL’s Celebrity Cruises, renamed to Celebrity Mercury (2008) and joined TUI fleet in 2011. The shipowner and operator TUI Cruises is an RCCL subsidiary line – a German joint venture capital cruise company of TUI AG (German travel corporation) and Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd (aka RCCL, the world’s second biggest passenger shipping company, after Carnival).
NEWS: The ship leaves TUI and goes to Thomson Cruises in 2019, most probably under the name “TUI Discovery 4”. TUI’s two new cruise ships (previously named “Mein Schiff 7” and “Mein Schiff 8”, with scheduled deliveries in 2018 and 2019) will be launched under the names “Mein Schiff 1” and “Mein Schiff 2”.
TUI Mein Schiff 2 cruise ship deck plan has a total of 956 cabins for 1912 passengers (max capacity is 2669 guests) served by 900 crew/staff. The new TUI Schiff 2 has 13 passenger accessible decks, with 6 restaurants, 2 bistros, 10 bars , 3 lounges, 2 swimming pools (plus 1 kids pool), 3 jacuzzies, 10 elevators, no Casino.
Complimentary dining options (included in all TUI Schiff 2 cruise deals) are Anckelmannsplatz, Atlantik Klassik, La Vela, Cliff 24, GOSCH Sylt. At additional charge are Blaue Welt, Surf & Turf, and Richards.
TUI Mein Schiff 2 2013 rfurbishment review
Durng the ship's 2013 drydock refurbishment (November 1-7) in Cadiz Spain was made general maintenance, as well as:
- The ship's exterior was repainted, including the hull (with new / eco coating)
- New yoga area (Deck 12, outdoor) was installed.
- LED lamps and new carpeting in public places were installed.
- Cliff 24 Bar was renovated.
