Mein Schiff 5 (built in 2016 and last refurbished in November 2023) is the third of the newest TUI cruise ships. The vessel has five sisterships from the same series — Schiff 3 (2014), Schiff 4 (2015), Schiff 6 (2017), Schiff 1 (2018), and Schiff 2 (2019). The shipowner and operator, TUI Cruises, is a joint venture between TUI AG (a German travel corporation, formerly Preussag AG) and Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd (the world’s second-largest passenger shipping company after Carnival).
The TUI Mein Schiff 5 deck plan includes a total of 1,253 cabins accommodating 2,506 passengers (double occupancy, maximum capacity 2,700), served by a crew of 1,000. The ship has 14 decks (12 accessible to passengers, 8 with cabins) and offers 18,000 m² / 193,750 ft² of total outdoor space. Onboard facilities include 11 restaurants and bistros, 12 bars and lounges, 2 swimming pools (one covered), 3 outdoor Jacuzzis, and 10 elevators.
The ship’s design team includes renowned companies such as Wilson Butler Architects (deck areas, public spaces, theatre, and concert hall), CM Design (interior and public areas, cabins, restaurants, and entertainment venues), and Tillberg Design (interior design). The TUI Schiff 5 staterooms were pre-manufactured by STX Finland Cabins.
Complimentary dining venues (included in all TUI Schiff 5 cruise packages) include Atlantik (Klassik, Brasserie, Mediterran), Anckelmannsplatz, GOSCH Sylt, Backstube, Tag & Nacht, Eis Bar, and Osteria (pizzeria). Specialty dining options available at an additional charge are Surf & Turf, Richards, Hanami (Asian cuisine by Tim Raue), and Schmankerl-Entspannt (Austrian cuisine).
Compared to TUI ships 3 and 4, Mein Schiff 5 and 6 introduced several new features:
- Thalia Leselounge and Nespresso Bar (both on Deck 3)
- Hanami (Asian restaurant by Tim Raue, Deck 5)
- Schmankerl-Entspannt (Austrian restaurant, Deck 5)
- Osteria (pizzeria, Deck 5)
- Lagune (outdoor pool, Deck 12)
TUI Schiff 5’s last drydock was held from March 26 to April 2, 2021, at Chantier Naval de Marseille (in Marseille, France) for her 5-year classification inspection.
