According to reports in the press in Italy, the mainstream brand MSC Cruises is close to placing a shipbuilding order with Fincantieri, with intention of entering ultra-luxury cruise market.
The cruise company is rumoured to be in the middle of a deal to build 4 luxury cruise ships.
The move would be a departure from mainstream cruise industry’s wish to build larger vessels.
The 4-ship order would feature a combined capacity of just more than 3,000 passengers, meaning each ship would accommodate around 750 passengers each.
MSC Cruises is yet expected to confirm the plans.
