  • Coronavirus - 2021 (11 crew)

November 2021Cruise Illness / Virus Outbreaks

On November 22, 2021, Ultramarine arrived at Port Ushuaia (Argentina), reporting 11 COVID-positive cases onboard (crew and maintenance personnel). The ship was immediately quarantined/blocked from docking and leaving, being ordered to wait for instructions at anchorage in the bay.

The COVID-positive and their close contacts were medevaced and isolated in a local hotel.

The ship was finally cleared/allowed to leave on December 3, after the onboard PCR testing of the entire crew returned COVID-negative. During the quarantine period, none of the crew was allowed to disembark. The outbreak occurred while the ship was without passengers, waiting for the maiden voyage to Antarctica to start on December 23.

(CruiseMapper emailed report by Rosemary/Pip Flory)

I was in Ushuaia myself, embarking on the Seaventure on December 12, 2021. We cruise passengers saw the Quark Ultramarine anchored offshore. Our guide told us about the Covid outbreak among its crew. When we came back at the end of our cruise (December 22), the Ultramarine was still there. It hadn't moved.
