Douglas Mawson cabins review

Follows the review of Ocean Discoverer cruise ship cabins, including amenities, furnishings, and included (complimentary) services:

  • All staterooms are outside-facing and feature either a step-out balcony, French balcony, or porthole windows.
  • Most staterooms (80% of all, excluding only Deck 3 cabins with portholes) feature a private step-out balcony accessible from the living area via a sliding floor-to-ceiling glass door. Each balcony is furnished with a small table and two deck chairs. Sixty percent of all cabins can accommodate triple occupancy with a pull-out couch/sofabed for a third guest.
  • Cabins are equipped with hotel-style beds (king-size or two twins, 200 x 160 cm), offering ample under-bed storage for suitcases. Additional furnishings include a sofabed, bedside cabinets, a mirrored vanity (writing desk/dressing table) with chair, built-in dressers with drawers, mini-bar/refrigerator, 42-inch smart HDTV (with local and satellite channels), onboard-use phone, digital clock/alarm, seating area (small table with one or two armchairs), spacious wardrobe (with hangers, drawers, electronic safe), individual climate control, and a medical emergency button.

Each stateroom has a private full-size bathroom with shower/WC, hairdryer, and premium bath amenities. Suites are available in three categories — CS (Captain's Suite), JS (Junior Suite), and BS (Balcony Suite). These are the ship’s largest accommodations, each with a double-sized balcony and enhanced amenities, including in-room dining service with continental breakfast served on the balcony.

Ocean Discoverer offers 20 pairs of connecting balcony cabins, which can be combined into a single stateroom for up to six guests — ideal for families. The ship does not feature wheelchair-accessible cabins for passengers with disabilities.
