An incident of serious concern was reported aboard the Costa Favolosa on Thursday, October 9th, involving the alleged sexual assault of a female crew member within her cabin.
Preliminary accounts indicate that an unidentified male gained unauthorized entry to the crew member’s cabin during the night by means of a key card. It is reported that he assaulted the sleeping woman before fleeing when she awoke and attempted to defend herself. The assailant, believed to be another crew member, has not yet been identified. Investigators are reviewing surveillance footage from crew corridors, which may assist in confirming the individual’s identity.
Following the incident, the victim was transported to Galliera Hospital in Genoa, where she received medical attention and support under Italy’s protection program for victims of violence. Costa Cruises’ Care Team provided assistance both onboard and ashore, and the crew member subsequently filed a formal complaint with the judicial authorities.
Costa Cruises confirmed through a statement to local media that the ship’s command had been informed of the event while the Costa Favolosa was en route to Genoa, its scheduled port of call. The company reported that all actions were taken in accordance with internal safety and response procedures and that it is cooperating fully with the ongoing investigation.
In its statement, Costa Cruises reiterated its commitment to the welfare of its crew and emphasized that measures remain in place to ensure a safe and secure working environment aboard all vessels in its fleet.
