Villa Vie Residences launches 5-year ownership plan

Villa Vie Residences has introduced a 5-year ownership scheme priced from US$49,999, offering travellers, retirees and digital nomads the opportunity to secure a private residence on the residential ship Villa Vie Odyssey and participate in a world-spanning itinerary covering 140+ countries and 425 ports/islands.

The plan is positioned as a flexible alternative to permanent ownership, enabling a mix of full-time or part-time home at sea.

According to company founder and chairman Mikael Petterson, the program brings the dream of living at sea within reach of a broader demographic by combining resort-style amenities with a global community of travellers. The ownership model grants access to all onboard amenities—including dining, wellness, entertainment and concierge services—as well as the ability to sell, gift or convert ownership toward even longer-term programs such as “Endless Horizons” or “Golden Passport”.

Villa Vie Residences is already expanding its residential cruise platform by offering multiple pathways: outright ownership for the life of the vessel, a 5-year term option, month-to-month rentals, and a rent-to-own option. The company describes the new offering as a strategic step to make global residence at sea accessible to a wider audience.

Industry observers note that this development forms part of a broader shift in cruise-industry product design—moving beyond standard voyages toward residential-style living at sea. While Villa Vie’s approach is novel, similar concepts have emerged elsewhere in the market. The operational vessel status, itinerary delivery and certification of such ships remain key considerations for prospective owners and residents.
