DCL-Disney Cruise Line has confirmed that actor Robert Downey Jr. will serve as the official godfather of its newest vessel, Disney Adventure, before the ship’s maiden voyage from Singapore scheduled for March 10th.
The appointment aligns DCL's largest ship with one of the most recognisable figures associated with its Marvel franchise.
Downey, widely known for his portrayal of Iron Man (Tony Stark) in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, is to undertake the ceremonial blessing customarily performed before a vessel enters service. The selection reflects the ship’s design emphasis, as Disney Adventure incorporates a full deck dedicated to Marvel-themed attractions and experiences, establishing a direct link between the actor’s screen persona and the onboard product.
In remarks issued in advance of the ceremony, Downey indicated that he regarded the appointment as an honour and observed that the scale of the vessel warranted a correspondingly significant blessing, referencing its status as the largest ship in the fleet.
At approximately 208,000 gross tons and with accommodation for up to 6,700 passengers, Disney Adventure represents a substantial increase in size compared with the line’s Wish-class ships, measuring roughly 44 per cent larger in gross tonnage. The vessel introduces several new features to the brand’s portfolio, including the Ironcycle Test Run, described as a full-scale roller coaster themed around the Tony Stark character. The onboard arrangement comprises seven themed zones, among them Marvel Landing, Disney Imagination Garden, and San Fransokyo Street, each designed to integrate immersive entertainment with the company’s established storytelling approach.
The ship will operate from Singapore as its homeport, marking a strategic expansion of Disney Cruise Line’s presence in Asia. Culinary offerings and onboard programming are structured to incorporate regional influences alongside the company’s established entertainment formats, positioning the vessel to serve both local and international markets from its Southeast Asian base.
