VIDEO: 3rd Fire in 16 Months Aboard Wightlink Ferry

   December 14, 2018 ,   Accidents

A ferry service was suspended following another fire aboard Wightlink-operated ship, the 3rd fire in 16 months.

The previous fire on Wight Sky was in August. In September 2017, a crew member was hurt in a blaze, in the engine room again.

Operator Wightlink announced that all passengers and crew had been safely taken off the ferry earlier. At the time of accident, it was berthed in Lymington.

The fire broke out early in the morning on Friday, December 14, and was confined to ferry's engine room.

Fire crews from Hampshire Fire & Rescue Service brought the fire under control. However, the ferry is out of action until further notice.

The MAIB (Marine Accident Investigation Branch) has started an investigation. Clients with bookings were advised to instead use Wightlink's Portsmouth-Fishbourne ferry crossing.
