Ponant Buys Paul Gauguin Cruises

French passenger shipping company PONANT announced plans to acquire French Polynesia & South Pacific specialist Paul Gauguin Cruises.

After the acquisition, announced on Thursday, August 8, the two cruise lines are due to keep their management, with "Diane Moore acting as CEO of Paul Gauguin Cruises with a team based in Bellevue, WA, and Navin Sawhney acting as CEO Americas of PONANT, based in New York."

Currently, PONANT, which was launched back in 1988, has 9 ships. The cruise company has been more active in the Canadian market during the past couple of years, promoting luxury explorer ships with a number of new ones in the works.

Paul Gauguin Shipping Ltd operates the 332-passenger ship MS Paul Gauguin.
