The "Active & Discovery" cruises of Avalon Waterways (land tour program with Avalon Choice excursions) are due to be more widely available in 2022, the river cruise company announced.

On these journeys, every day, travellers can choose from a selection of included ‘Classic,’ ‘Active,’ and ‘Discovery’ excursions. The average number of Avalon Choice tours is 22, giving guests a wealth of opportunities to customize their vacation.

Active & Discovery cruises were launched for the first time in 2017 and have grown in popularity for Avalon Waterways. In 2022, there will be 6 such itineraries with a total of 47 departures. However, for the first time, these voyages will be offered on all major rivers in Europe - Danube, Rhine, Moselle, Rhone, and Seine, as well as the inland waterways of Belgium and Holland.

Activities on these voyages include canoe paddling (Moselle), kayaking (Seine/close to Rouen), hiking to Landshut Castle (Bernkastel-Kues), a cocktail workshop (Palais Benedictine in Fecamp), visiting a mustard mill in Germany, learning about Normandy's cheese trail, tasting traditional pastries.

Avalon's "Storyteller Series" in 2022 feature two American authors - Candace Bushnell ("Sex and the City") and Gillian Schieber Flynn ("Sharp Objects", "Dark Places", "Gone Girl").

Priced from USD 2550, the Active & Discovery cruise vacations include more excursions, at the same cost, as other itineraries. Guests can take advantage of Avalon's Fly Free & Save deal, offering up to USD 1000 per couple on select 2021-2022 European river cruises.
