  • propulsion/power loss - 2026 (during the inaugural cruise)

18 March 2026Propulsion / Power Loss

In the early hours of March 18th, 2026, the Wheelhouse team was alerted to a loss of power on the portside engine, followed shortly thereafter by a similar failure on the starboard unit, both located aft. With only the forward engine remaining operational, the ship's Master (Captain Profirel Mosa) determined that continuation under reduced propulsion in a confined and heavily trafficked stretch of river would present unnecessary risk.

The boat was anchored west of Urmitz-Bahnhof (a district of Mulheim-Karlich), awaiting shore-based technical support.

Subsequently, a cargo vessel was engaged to tow the riverboat to Koblenz for further assessment and repairs. A shoreside engineering team was dispatched to assist the ship's technical staff, who worked continuously to diagnose and rectify the malfunction to restore full propulsion capability.

The accident occurred during AmaSofia's maiden voyage, and caused in itinerary changes. The scheduled visit to Rudesheim was canceled and replaced with arrangements for shore excursions in Koblenz, where the boat remained alongside.
