The Japan-made vessel was constructed at Nagasaki Shipyard by MHI (Mitsubishi Heavy Industries) and launched (floated out from drydock) on April 6, 1991. The Inaugural Cruise started on December 24th.

The ship was originally named "MS Asuka" and owned (between 1991-2006) by the Japanese shipping company NYK-Line (Nippon Yusen Kaisha).

Since 2006, MS Amadea has been operated by Phoenix Reisen under charter from the German shipowner Amadea Shipping Company GmbH.

14 September 2026Fire Accident

On September 14, 2026, while docked at Port Ronne on Denmark’s Bornholm Island, the ship experienced a small fire, prompting the evacuation of approximately 320 passengers.

The fire broke out in a linen-storage compartment. Bornholm Police received the alarm at 7:21 AM (5:21 UTC), and the fire was reportedly extinguished within approximately 10 minutes. No passengers or crew members were injured.

The accident occurred during a 12-night Baltic Cruise (itinerary September 5-17, roundtrip from Bremerhaven) visiting ports in Norway (Arendal, Lysekil, Oslo), Denmark (Aalborg, Copenhagen), Poland (Gdynia-Gdansk), Denmark (Ronne, Bornholm Island), and Germany (Wismar).
