31 December 2009Other Incidents

On December 31, 2009, due to harsh weather, the passengers from North Sydney NS were stuck on the ship for ~30 hours as disembarkation in Port aux Basque NF was postponed. Note: the scheduled crossing time North Sydney-Port aux Basque is only 6,5 hours.

As wind speeds were up to 45 mph / 75 kph, the Captain decided to wait until they subside. Curiously, at the same time, another passenger ferry from Nova Scotia berthed in and then left from Port aux Basque.

22 December 2009Ship Collision / Allision

(pier collision) On December 22, 2009, due to strong winds at Port-aux-Basques, the ship sustained stern hull damage (5 m / 16 ft puncture above the waterline).

The accident occurred at ~7:45 am, while the vessel was maneuvering for docking in Port-aux-Basques. High winds pushed it against the berth's fender system. The ferry was out of service until December 23.

Note: Actually, this type of marine accident is called “allision” (striking a fixed object) as opposed to “collision” (striking another vessel).

18 August 2009Ship Collision / Allision

(pier collision) On August 18, 2009, the ship collided with the dock in Port-aux-Basques (Newfoundland, Canada), which resulted in minor stern fender damage.

Note: Actually, this type of marine accident is called “allision” (striking a fixed object) as opposed to “collision” (striking another vessel).

29 July 2009Fire Accident

On July 29, 2009, at ~7 am, the ship was forced to re-dock again in Port-aux-Basques due to an engine room (boiler room) fire.

The accident occurred while the ferry was heading to Newfoundland Canada, leaving from Port-aux-Basques at ~6 am. No injuries were reported. The vessel was out of service for 1 day.

27 December 2008Fire Accident
