25 July 2010Crew / Passenger Injuries and Overboards

(MS Oceanic Discoverer) On July 25, 2010, another 34-year-old male crew (again of Australian origin) was reported in critical condition after being crushed by a hydraulic fire door. The accident again occurred during a safety drill, while the ship was docked in Napier (New Zealand).

The man remained trapped for 5 min, then immediately transported by an ambulance for surgery for the sustained injuries to the chest, abdomen and the pelvis. Due to investigations, the departure to Marlborough Sounds was delayed with 1 day.

19 February 2009Crew / Passenger Deaths

(MS Oceanic Discoverer) On February 19, 2009, a 34-year-old crew was reported in critical condition. The man (of Australian origin) was crushed by a hydraulic door. The accident occurred during a fire drill, while the ship was moored in Hawkes Bay (New Zealand).

The ship was on a 12-day cruise from Auckland NZ to Milford Sound. On March 10, the man died from sustained injuries.
