17 April 2012Ship Grounding

On April 17, 2012, due to poor visibility on Rhine River (caused by fog), the ship ran aground near Elchesheim-Illingen (between Karlsruhe and Rastatt). The accident resulted in water ingress (3 hull leaks) and propulsion failure (both propellers were damaged). Two passengers (experiencing circulatory problems) were hospitalized in Karlsruhe.

Without propulsion, the boat (carrying 114 passengers and 43 crew) was not able to continue the voyage and was evacuated in Karlsruhe. On April 18, it was towed to Meiderich Shipyard (Duisburg) for repairs. The cruise ship returned to service on April 25.
