  • pier collision/allision - 2007 (near Asten Austria)

02 October 2007Ship Collision / Allision

On October 2, 2007, at around midnight, while navigating on Danube River in Upper Austria and passing near the Abwinden-Asten powerplant, the riverboat tore up a stopping rope and hit a bridge. Following the collision, a 170-ton crane fell and crashed on the ship's bow.

Three female passengers were reported with minor injuries - two German (suffering a shock) and one Swiss (with head laceration). The boat sustained major structural damages, including broken radar, sundeck structures and windows (of some cabins and the Bar-Salon). The vessel was taken out of service for shipyard repairs in Linz Austria.

Note: Actually, this type of marine accident is called “allision” (striking a fixed object) as opposed to “collision” (striking another vessel).
