13 July 2012Fire Accident

(Regina Rheni) On July 13, 2012, at ~3:15 am, the operated by Saga Cruises riverboat suffered a fire accident. The fire broke out in the ship's galley/kitchen (storage room), while the vessel was near Dusseldorf Germany, navigating on Rhine  River.

The fire was extinguished at ~6:30 am (after ~3 hours) by firefighting teams. The storage room was completely destroyed.

All the 102 passengers and 32 crew were mustered on the Sun Deck's forward part, wearing lifejackets. They were evacuated to another vessel, transferred to Himmelgeist, then ferried to Dusseldorf. During the transit to Dusseldorf, all of them were examined by an emergency physician. Four injured passengers were transported by an ambulance to a hospital. All other passengers were accommodated in a hotel in Dusseldorf.
