- collision - 2025 (with a cargo barge)
11 May 2025Ship Collision / AllisionIn the early hours of May 11, 2025, while navigating on the Rhone River, the riverboat (operated by Nicko Cruises) collided with a cargo barge near Sablons (Isere department, Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes region). The ship was carrying a total of 127 German tourists. No injuries or water ingress were reported. The impact resulted in damage to the ship's hull above the waterline, while the cargo barge sustained significant structural damage. Fortunately, the positioning of the damage on the ship eliminated immediate concerns of flooding or sinking. French authorities initiated evacuation procedures for all cruise passengers and crew members. Bus arrangements were made to transport them to their intended destination later that day. The accident occurred during the 7-day "Rhone Cruise" (itinerary May 7-14, roundtrip from Lyon) with scheduled visits to Chalon-sur-Saone, Macon, Belleville-sur-Saone, Trevoux, Viviers-sur-Rhone, Arles, Avignon, and Chateauneuf-du-Pape. |
