- pier collision - 2017 (Risoyhamn, Norway)
|29 March 2017||Ship Collision / Allision|
On March 29, 2017, while maneuvering for docking at Risoyhamn (Andoy, Nordland Norway), the cruise ship collided with the concrete pier. The accident resulted in serious damages to the wharf and also hull damages to the vessel. The bow was breached (above waterline) and several steel plates fell through the hole. Fun fact is that the hull hole looked like a shark jaw.
No injuries or water ingress and pollution were reported. The vessel berthed shortly after the collision and its seaworthiness was not compromised. For the needed repairs, the ship was out of service through April 12 (departed from Bergen).
Note: Actually, this type of marine accidents is called “allision” (striking a fixed object) as opposed to “collision” (striking another vessel).
