01 July 2017Ship Collision / Allision

On July 1, 2017, upon leaving Port Bastia (Corsica Island), a powerful northwest gust of wind (speed around 55 kph (35 mph) pushed the ship against the dam.

The accident resulted in significant propulsion system damage (starboard propeller). The ferry was out of service for repairs until July 27.

Note: Actually, this type of marine accident is called “allision” (striking a fixed object) as opposed to “collision” (striking another vessel).

27 February 2009Propulsion / Power Loss

(Tallink Superstar) On February 27, 2009, while en route from Tallinn to Helsinki with around 400 passengers, at ~8:45 am, ship's main engines stopped due to problems with their cooling system. The liner lost power and was adrift for around 2 hours (until ~10:30 am), with the emergency generators providing electricity. The ship arrived in Helsinki at ~11:30 (2 hours behind schedule).

30 April 2008Structural and Technical Issues

(Tallink Superstar) On April 30, 2008, upon leaving Port Tallinn, the ship suffered hydraulic system problem and the Tallinn-Helsinki crossing had to be canceled.
