18 July 2022Structural and Technical Issues

On July 18, 2022, after departing Bartlett Cove dock in Glacier Bay NP (Alaska) and maneuvering away from the dock, the towed by SS Wilderness Legacy skiff (27-ft open deck boat) began flooding and partially submerged.

No tourists or crew were on the boat at the time of the accident.

The ship immediately deployed a crewed boat to set up a boom (floating barrier) around the skiff and recovered 2 portable, 6-gallon fuel containers. The environmental impact was minimal, with just ~2 cups of gasoline escaping the boom.

The ship's cruise operations restarted by the end of the day.

Passengers were reimbursed for the voyage interruption.
