On Mar 23, 2020, Tallink Grupp was commissioned by Estonia's Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications to operate the ship Tallink Star on the Estonia-Germany route Paldiski-Sassnitz (Rugen Island). The route was commissioned to ensure the shipping of goods during Europe's Coronavirus pandemic.

The vessel was commissioned for shipping wheeled cargo (max capacity 100 trucks plus 10 passenger vehicles). Boarding of foot passengers (without vehicles) was forbidden. For all truck drivers were provided staterooms. The ship's schedule started on March 27, 2020.
