The AIDA Cruises ship AIDAbella rammed a quay wall at the Hamburg cruise terminal (Germany) on Thursday, December 8th.

The accident happened while the liner was docking.

Hamburg's water police temporarily prohibited further travel.

A police spokesman said that while docking at the Hamburg-Steinwerder cruise terminal, the AIDAbella ship had rammed the quay wall at ~8 am local time (~) on Thursday. The water police issued a further ban.

There was minor damage to AIDAbella's hull. People were not harmed.

A technical defect is suspected to be the cause of the accident.

AIDAbella had been checked immediately, AIDA Cruises announced.

The ship had returned to Hamburg from a 26-day voyage Thursday morning and was originally scheduled to set off again for the Caribbean in the evening.

The next scheduled roundtrip to the Caribbean (43-day "Grose Winterpause Karibik 1" itinerary) was delayed by 2 days - departed on Dec 10th instead of Dec 8th.
